Présentation
The Register of Insurance Intermediaries includes the people or legal entities authorised to practise insurance or reinsurance intermediation activity in France. Consulting it enables this qualification to be checked for all intermediaries, whether they are registered in France or in another European State.
Intermediaries registered in France
Enrolment in this register is compulsory for an individual resident in France, or a company having its head office in France, in order to be able to practise insurance or reinsurance intermediary activity. (But it does not concern an intermediary's employees: only their employer is registered).
It certifies that this person or entity fulfils the conditions and requirements specified by the insurance code for the practise of this activity, in compliance with European law.
All these conditions and requirements are checked by the Organisme pour le Registre des Intermédiaires en Assurance (ORIAS - Organisation for the Register of Insurance Intermediaries) prior to registering the intermediary and prior to any complementary registration under another category of intermediaries.
For intermediaries required to provide evidence of professional liability insurance and/or a financial guarantee, compliance with these requirements is also checked each year by ORIAS.
The work of ORIAS is limited to checking the conditions of enrolment in the Register of Insurance Intermediaries; control of the activity of French intermediaries comes under the responsibility of the Autorité de contrôle Prudentiel (ACP - Insurance and Bank Control Authority).
